I teach in my own home studio in a very relaxed atmosphere and always aim to provide a friendly reception when you arrive (as do my cats, Chalkie and Leia) together with a selection of refreshments!
I have a huge amount of resources available to ensure that your learning experience is very productive as well as fun! All students are provided with backing tracks, handouts and technical exercises as appropriate, however, I would ask you to bring a flash drive or smart phone to your lessons so that we can ensure that all of your backing tracks are kept together safely and handy for your use at home. Alternatively, you are also welcome to bring your own music, instruments or backing tracks for use in your lessons.
I always ask potential students to book a half hour consultation initially, following which we will concentrate on those all important aspects of posture, breathing and support! After this, the sessions will be tailored around you and your singing needs but will invariably involve microphone use once you have gained the confidence you need.
I sometimes like to record students singing during some of their lessons as I find this is a useful tool when you are learning. Additionally, I am able to make recordings of your voice as part of your training. These recordings can then be used as vocal clips to put on a web site or even a demo. For those of you who would like to take your recordings to another level I also have links to a full professional recording studio in Birmingham.
As your vocal coach and singing teacher I am not only here to teach you but also to motivate you and provide you with the confidence you need to improve your singing voice and overall performance, so if you require any support from me at any time, either during or outside of lessons, please don’t be afraid to ask and I will do my best to assist you!
People will often avoid booking a singing consultation because they are too nervous, even though it may be something they have been longing to do! Rest assured… the consultation exists to ensure that I can gain a basic understanding of your musical background, your goals and your vocal range – it is not a test or anything even remotely scary!
The consultation will also allow you to get to know a bit about me and my teaching style so that you can make a decision as to whether you would like to continue your singing lessons with me. Thankfully, most people do return and I have had the good fortune to build up great working relationships, as well as friendships, with everyone that I teach.
